Our Programs and Services
Our model is straightforward. We collect what people can give. We organize it. We get it to the people who need it. No long waiting lists. No complicated eligibility requirements. We meet people where they are and offer what we have. That is the approach. And it works.
Food Box Program
We accept donations of non-perishable food from individuals, congregations, businesses, and community organizations throughout Staten Island. Our volunteers sort and assemble those donations into boxes that are then distributed to community members in need. Each box is packed with care. We think about the family or the individual who will receive it. We think about whether it is enough to make a real difference in their week. That mindfulness is built into everything we do.
Why this matters: Food insecurity does not announce itself. It hides behind closed doors and quiet embarrassment. Making food available through a community-based program lowers the barrier for people who might not seek help elsewhere.
Personal Hygiene Distribution
Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine hygiene products. These are not extras. They are part of basic human health and dignity. They are also rarely covered by food assistance programs, which means people who are struggling with food insecurity are often struggling without these things too. We collect hygiene donations and distribute them alongside food or as standalone support, depending on what each person or family needs.
Why this matters: A person who cannot access hygiene products faces barriers in employment, healthcare, and school. Addressing this need is part of addressing the whole person.
Basic Necessities Support
The needs of a community shift. Seasons change. Crises happen. We stay responsive. Beyond food and hygiene, we work to address whatever essential needs arise in the community we serve. We do not draw rigid lines around what we will and will not help with. We listen to what people need and do what we can.
Why this matters: Real support is not categorical. When someone is in crisis, they need a neighbor who says, tell me what you need. We try to be that neighbor.
Community Connection
We connect individuals and families with the resources, organizations, and people who can help beyond what we offer directly. If someone comes to us with a need we cannot fill alone, we do not send them away empty-handed. We help them find the next step. Building those connections within the community is part of our work too.
Why this matters: A referral to the right resource at the right moment can change the entire direction of someone’s situation.
Our Approach
We believe that community-led solutions work better than top-down programs. We are not outside experts arriving to solve a problem we read about. We are part of this neighborhood. We understand its rhythms, its relationships, and its needs from the inside. Our work is shaped by direct contact with the people we serve. We ask. We listen. We adjust. And we show up again the next week.
